On Sunday, May 24th, 2015, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Daniel Constantin, met his counterpart, the Minister of Environment, Mr. Ahmad Al-Hemaidi, in Doha, Qatar. The discussions focused on creating a framework for a memorandum of cooperation between Romania and the State of Qatar, in order to initiate bilateral relations in agriculture.

No previous agreements on bilateral relations in the agricultural field have existed so far and the future agreement will cover research, breeding, plant products and horticulture.

"As the State of Qatar imports about 90% of agrifood products, trade can be a solution for developing bilateral relations. During the discussions that took place today, we reiterated the idea that Romania will send its first agricultural attache in Doha, with the view to develop an entry point to the Gulf region for Romanian agricultural products", said Daniel Constantin.

The State of Qatar Environment Minister has renewed the invitation, accepted by the Romanian side, to participate together with businesses representatives to the international agriculture fair AGRITEQ 2015 that will take place in Doha, in November.

During the visit, Minister Daniel Constantin had a meeting with Food Hassan company`s management, a company performing in investment and trade.

Minister Daniel Constantin`s visit is part of the schedule of a delegation in Qatar and the UAE, headed by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Tourism, Mr. Mihai Tudose, that took place from  23th to 25th of May 2015. This delegation followed the visit of the Prime Minister of the Romanian Government, Mr. Victor Ponta, in the Arab Gulf countries within the period April 30th - May 5th, 2015, which targeted a better promotion of bilateral cooperation opportunities, increasing trade, attracting foreign investment capital to Romania and promoting political and diplomatic dialogue on security developments in the Middle East.
